How much wax (lbs, oz etc) do bees ADD to a ten frame super?
Q: Can anyone tell me how much wax (lbs, oz etc) bees ADD to a ten frame medium (or deep) super with standard wax foundation? Thanks. George M.
A: A comb uses approximately 2.6 lbs (more or less depending on if you start with foundation) of wax that covers 100,000 cells (or about 10 frames, depending on frame size, and cell size). These cells are angled up at an 18 degree angle to retain the goodness they fill them with. Bees need to consume 6-8 lbs of honey to make 1 pound of wax. A standard sheet of plain wax, deep comb, weighs a third of a pound.
