There appears to be sawdust at the bottom of the boxes. Termites?
Q: I’m fairly new, but happy to report that my two hives have survived their first winter. There appears to be sawdust at the bottom of the boxes. Termites? G. Hamlin
A: Chances are no; that’s probably capping wax. The bees chewed off the cap of each cell of honeycomb in order to consume their stores. The photo below shows typical “chewing” debris.
