This wooden rim stands approximately 2 in. tall (when assembled) and will add some extra space to allow for feeding your bees dry sugar as an emergency winter food source. Fits 10-frame hives.
To use, place this rim on the top of your stack, then cut two sheets of black and white newspaper to fit exactly inside the walls of your hive body (these sheets when laid directly on your top bars will leave about on third of the 10 frames exposed). Spray the newspaper to wet, then start adding dry granulated cane sugar, misting the sugar as you put it down so it begins to clump. We recommend filling a 2-lb. coffee can with sugar and gradually adding to the newspaper until it's gone. This Mountain Camp method of feeding will also help absorb moisture from the hive.
